Few companies manage to retain its pace of growth in the dreaded recessionary trends. Siomond Pharma is one of them. The company managed it growth rate of 50 per cent in comparison to the pharma industry as whole which has been growing at an average rate of 18 per cent for last few years.

The people at Siomond Pharma believe in transparency as a key to success. They have worked hard to develop a work culture that provides opportunities to learn innovate and experiment new ideas.

Since their inception in 1999, Pradeep Thakur, one of three directors at Simond Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. has been taking care of its marketing and finance. As he says, €In Siomonds Pharma there are three directors including me. I take marketing and finance while the other directors look after the distribution, procuring the products from the manufacturers on loan license basis and also the general administration of the company.€

Siomond Pharma starting as a trading company saw the paradigm shift in their operation a decade ago when they established themselves as a marketing company for pharma products with a clear vision of providing precious quality medicines for the ailing masses. Earlier we were basically a trading company. But in the process of time we had made this company as a marketing company and were promoting the pharmaceutical products throughout northern India,€ says Pradeep.

Why they chose this name - Siomond Pharmaceuticals? There is an interesting theory behind choosing the name of the company as Simond Pharma. €The name Siomond has a distinctive meaning. Siomond comes from the combination of Sun & Diamond. Sun is the ultimate source of energy and Diamond is the most precious element on earth. When both are combined Siomond is formed,€ says Pradeep.

In order to keep pace with the growth in the industry, they floated another enterprise - Simond Pharma and went on to establish another in 2008 - Siemens Laboratories India Pvt. Ltd. at Haridwar. The companies are engaged in manufacturing and also marketing pharma products procured from different manufacturers on loan-license, job-contracts, and products license basis.
Simond Pharma currently has more than 150 scheduled drugs. Some of them are manufactured by themselves while others are procured from manufacturers on the basis of the formulation, specification and technical assistance given by the Siomond Pharma.

As far as R&D is concerned, Siomonds being an SME has yet to establish its own full-fledged and well-equipped R&D section for want of funds. €But the way we are growing, we expect to set up our own R&D in near future. We have already applied to the government bodies for assistance to establish own R&D.€ Although their production unit at Haridwar has its own R&D facilities and they are in the process to establish another unit at Kundali very soon equipped with R&D facility.

Many SMEs in the pharma sector are joining hands with their global counterparts. Siomond Pharma is not far too. They are also in the process of joining hands with a Demark pharmaceutical company.

Siomond Pharma has ambitious planning and appears to make headway in the international arena too. €Finance is a great problem for an SME like us but we getting some financial assistance from the bankers and we are looking for more options like private equity, institutional equity, and by 2013-14 we hope to bring our IPOs.€

They also hope to be listed on SME Exchange which is much awaited on the SMEs platforms. Their financials, ROI (return on investments) infrastructure and plans are very attractive that will easily attract the investors.

Success will surely come their way, they believe.
