What is a dream?

There are scientific descriptions for sleep and dreams. But, those are not seem adequate. I would like to ask one or two questions from every body who claims he or she can define what sleep is, or what a dream is.

First thing I want to know; What makes a dream so forgettable? If I explain it further; some times we see long dreams which may be just like a story. May be we have gone to a place with some friends or with family members etc. Just after the dream, the full story of the dream is easily recovered from the memory. But, the next morning, it is totally gone! and very hard to memorize in full. Some times you may recover few points in the dream but the fine details of the environment you saw are totally unrecoverable.

My question is; what makes this forgetfulness? We do not forget things so quickly in reality. But, the dreams are not recoverable from our memory as other things.

I have an explanation for this type of happening. It is not an acceptable phenomena but only an attempt to explain and justify the quick forgetfulness of dreams.

The physical structure of human brain is very complex. I am not going in to details of the Anatomy of brain. Here we are considering it as a functional unit.

Virtually and basically it functions as two units. The outer part or the cortex like thing is covering the inner part. I believe the outer part is responsible for most of our life work. Thinking, controlling and all other day to day functions are maintained by the same. The inner part has similar functions plus some other functions. However, it works with different data.

If we describe it further, the inner part mostly works with inherited data. The outer one works with the data gathered in the past. It is responsible for supplying data to the inner parts but it doesn't get updated frequently. Therefore the data in the inner brain seems out dated. I will elaborate that fact later.

Our social life is under control of outer brain. The inner section makes various proposals but the outer one has filtering responsibility. It doesn't allow us to do each and every idea comes to our mind. We are controlled in accordance with the laws, ethics and taboos, wholly by the outer. If if is not functioning properly, we loose the power to behave normally as there are no inhibitions. In such an instance we would do bizarre things. The specific qualities of an individual too are lost.

During a dream, we may talk or walk with our loved ones who were already dead. We may walk with our parents who have died several years ago. The meaning of that is; the part of brain that is responsible for that dream is out dated in real data. It doesn't know that my father is dead several years ago. I believe that a dream is a kind of "thinking" with the help of inner of brain. Instead, normal "thinking" in life is done with the help of outer of brain.

When we are awake, the outer parts blocks the thinking of inner. But during sleep, the outer is inactive; so the thinking of inner part is what we are sensing.

The reason for the forgetfulness of a dream is due to the inhibitory effect of outer compartment on inner part's thinking which is the "dream" itself. Outer doesn't allow the thinking of inner to be sensed. When we are awake, it is very difficult to memorize a dream because the outer brain blocks it completely.

The technique of this blocking should be properly studied. If any body can control this blocking, he would be able to sense the thinking of inner part, which may contain totally different data.
