How to Go Green With Window Treatments
- 1). Measure the total length and width of the window where you will hang your cafe curtain.
- 2). Divide the length in half, and this is where you will tentatively place the pressure-mounted cafe curtain rod. Make a small "X" on the inside of the window casing for reference later when you are ready to install the rod.
- 3). Cut an old curtain to size: measure the half-length plus 3 inches and the width plus 1 inch.
- 4). Fold the fabric 2 inches from the top, and use fusible tape and your clothes iron to bond the folded fabric together, creating a pocket. Make sure you fold from the right side of the fabric onto the reverse side of the fabric to make this pocket and other hems throughout the project.
- 5). To make neat sides, fold each side 1/2 inch. Use fusible tape and your clothes iron to bond the folded material.
- 6). Hem the bottom of the curtain by folding 1 inch from the bottom up. Use fusible tape and your clothes iron to bond the folded material.
- 7). Find the X you marked earlier on the window casing. Mount the curtain by running a pressure-mount curtain rod through the pole pocket and placing the rod on the X on the window casing, completing the look.
