Brown glass mosaic tiles provide a classy but costly touch

I have seen a few bathrooms that have blue glass mosaic tiles and although the look of them is quite attractive, it is not to my taste. In my mind blue glass mosaic tiles remind me of the swimming baths which we used to go to from school and the image is stuck in my brain. I prefer the classier brown glass mosaic tiles which add a smoky effect to a room, especially a bathroom.

I have also seen black sparkle mosaic tiles and quite like the effect of the black Split Face mosaic tiles which a friend has in his home. Brick mosaic and brick mosaic tiles are now available in a wide variety of colours and shapes and all are becoming popular, even though glass tiles are not the cheapest option.

Benefits of glass mosaic tiles

With glass mosaics, you can achieve a variety of looks. Creativity is virtually unlimited with glass. You decide whatever colour, size and combination meets your needs and you can also combine glass mosaics with stone or ceramics to give a more distinct look. When properly installed, you can be sure of adding style, elegance and beauty to any room with glass mosaics.

Since brown glass mosaic tiles reflect light, this gives the room a bigger and brighter look so that the indoor ambiance is enhanced wherever glass mosaics are used. Unlike ceramic which is prone to stains, mildew and mold, glass is resistant to these vexations. The porous quality of glass enables it to retain its clear nature and colour. They are also easy to clean and need to be simply wiped down.

Disadvantages of glass mosaic tiles

They cost considerably more than ceramic or stone and scratches show easily on glass mosaics. If installed in a room that is frequently used, like a kitchen, the fine appearance is unlikely to last long. Once glass mosaics develop scratches their attractiveness is visibly reduced. It is also difficult to eliminate scratches once they develop on glass. Glass is fragile and severe damage will cause it to shatter. You may be compelled to replace the material, which adds to your overall costs.

Considerable expertise is required to install glass mosaic tiles. The cutting and grouting processes demand perfection. Some types of glass like frosted glass tend to chip when being cut. Flaky edges will show once installation is completed. Installation is a slow and laborious process and more intricate designs will require even more time and expertise. Unfortunately, a less-than-perfect job will show clearly through the tiles.

Mosaic glass tile floors can imbue a room with a sense of lavish luxury but this is reflected in the cost as they can be a costly option and maintenance may be difficult in high traffic areas, so this is not the right flooring for every application. It's important to understand the characteristics of the material before you make a decision. However, most people decide to have at least a small area of brick mosaic tiles just because they look so good.
