Bicycling for Beginners -- A New Beginning
Bicycling for Beginners [http://bicyclingforbeginnersonline.blogspot.com/] is a series of articles to help those attracted to cycling but need some guidelines, activities and lessons to begin a fresh and exhilarating way to observe the world. I have been a cyclist for most of my life, while young and old, and can confirm that cycling is greatly unappreciated in the US.
There are few endeavors that are low cost, roving, healthy, physically gentle and liberating, as when cruising with a bike. The majority of people in the US begin their passion for cycling upon receiving the first set of wheels as a child. In my case, I rode a friend's two-wheeler at four years young. My first one arrived at six years. It's the only memory I recall from that time in my life. I was too short for the 24" frame and had to stand on a rock or bench to get started. Once rolling, I could keep it going. Stopping usually meant falling over on the grass.
As with all projects of worth, persistence leads to success and long term results. It's paramount to choose a course of action that matches your lifestyle without sucking the life out of you. Start slow and gradually add time on the bike. In time, your motivation will be self driven. It is spontaneous, you won't require a manager.
There are so many different ways to enjoy cycling that you can try new biking activities whenever you feel the desire to explore. There are those that participate in many types of cycling and own a bike for each branch. Some examples are road racing, mountain biking, tandem riding, track riding, recumbent riding, touring, BMX, or beach cruising. If you're looking for a change in pace, try some touring in another country.
While your bike collection at this point is likely to be small (one), actually, you may be looking for your first bike, once you get the fever, the numbers may grow. I will be doing an article later that will include guidelines for choosing and buying a bike. With the constant advance in bicycle equipment, the cost per benefit ratio is very low and you should be able to find a very satisfactory bike for ridiculously low cost. Of course, you can spend as much as you want for a bike. The one that Lance Armstrong rides will come in somewhere around $20K. Unless you will be doing serious racing, you can find excellent new bikes for less than $1000 and used ones for less than $500. I've picked up decent bikes for my son on EBay for about $150.
If you are dedicated to giving bicycling a serous effort, you will find useful help in these articles. Since most people can already ride a bike, beginning cycling is an easy sport to pick up. I can help you to make it more fun, safe and rewarding. I want to help as others provided me with this kind of support in my young adult years and it seems the right thing to do to pass this forward. So get your friends together and find a local club to ride with. Do not be intimidated by your underdeveloped skill or training. The clubs will have members of every level and will gear training rides to your and others needs.
So follow these articles and be ready to enjoy a future of new adventures and fitness with Bicycling for Beginners.
