Winter Walks With the Kids

Try going out for walks with the whole family in the winter to help beat those winter blues.
It's cold and rainy outside.
The kids have spent far too long on video games and watching TV.
And now they're chasing each other around the house and you up the wall.
Get the kids away from video games for a few hours and get some exercise in the great outdoors.
It may seem an unlikely option to take the little ones out on cold, blustery days but getting outdoors is beneficial for the whole family.
We have all read the news telling us about the health problems caused by central heating.
What better way to improve the health of the whole family than getting outdoors, getting some fresh air in their lungs and having them running around getting good exercise.
With the correct outdoors wear we can all enjoy the British winter.
All that is needed is a sense of adventure and the correct warm wear clothing to make sure the kids don't get cold.
There are plenty of warm wear options available these days, from fleece lined all in one suits to layered separates to build the correct level of protection.
There is a wealth of wildlife to explore in the countryside and also city parks.
Whether treking across the moors, hiking through the forest, braving the coast or walking through the local park, the landscape changes dramatically from winter to spring.
Get out there and let the kids explore their environment.
Here are a few ideas to get the kids out in the great out doors this winter; 1- Walk in the park.
Walks in the park are an excellent way to get the kids' imaginations going.
Become an expert tracker, look for tracks in the snow and follow them, you never know what you might find.
Take the time to watch the squirrels searching for food.
They can be ever so entertaining to watch, and what better way to get the kids interested in nature than getting hands on with the wildlife.
2- Visit the duck pond.
Take some bread to feed the ducks.
What other birds can the kids name while there? Lets face it feeding the ducks is a past time we have been doing for years, but be careful ducks can and sometimes do bite so watch out for those little fingers.
Always throw the bread and don't try to hand feed it to them.
Also ensure that you follow whatever rules there are in place in your local park as some of the wildlife are managed by the park rangers, or in Britain they're called park keepers.
Sometimes you are advised to not feed them.
3- Jumping in muddy puddles.
It's not just cartoon pigs that love jumping in muddy puddles.
With the correct warm wear and wellies kids will love running around and jumping in muddy puddles.
Take a spare pair of trousers though as kids often get caked in mud - which is the whole point right? 4- Go to another world.
Take a walk through the woods while playing out your children's favourite book.
There are so many to choose from and the kids will love reciting the words from memory.
Perhaps pretend to be some of the characters from "Winnie the pooh", kids just love it when their parents join in the fun and act a little bit like a kid themselves 5- Go on safari.
Even a trip to the zoo will be a different experience in the winter.
Many of the animals that hide in the summer are often easier to see in the winter months.
