Building owners spend millions of dollars a year fixing damage by birds.
Birds damage buildings, ventilation systems, machinery and roofs.
In addition to physical damage bird droppings may pose health risks and create an aesthetic nightmare.
Bird nests have also been linked to fires.
Fire investigators have attributed fires to cigarette buts used for nesting, and from the heat created by the decomposing material used to build larger nests.
A few more common problems include droppings on awnings, ground and walls, roof damage from droppings & nesting materials, collapsed ceiling and structures due to excessive weight from dropping and/or nest and blocked ventilation systems.
Overtime these problems will inevitably occur as birds will return each year in increasing numbers.
Property owners need to consider the long term damage and be pro-active on controlling unwanted birds.
Simply cleaning bird droppings up is labor intensive and will still result in expensive damage in the long run.
Controlling the birds does not necessarily equate to a huge expense.
There are numerous options available to deter birds and many are cost effective.
It could be as simple as a one time bird deterrent decoy purchase and install.
Decoys resembling predatory birds like the Great Horned Owl naturally deter birds.
Other simple bird control options include bird netting, bird diverters, other visual deterrents and various bird spikes.
More sophisticated systems include Ultrasonic sound units.
Cost of basic bird repellents such as decoys, bird netting and spikes will cost you anywhere from $20 to $100 and very little labor.
For a good ultrasonic system that works will start around $500 and up depending on are that you need to cover.
If you had to spend a $1000 would you consider the expense too high? Let's consider a common bird related problem for comparison.
Birds nesting in air condition units.
Average cost to repair an air conditioning unit is about $400.
If your unlucky and the unit is burned out, its going to cost you over a $1000.
This is only one time, can happen every year, because I guarantee the birds are coming back.
Now it doesn't seem expensive to install a bird control system.
Take the initiative and install proper and effective bird control.
