Troubleshooting Tips for Generac

    Circuit Breaker

    • Check the unit's circuit breaker if no AC output is being produced, but the generator is running. If one of the circuit breakers is open, reset it. Verify that the connected device does not require a greater load than the generator can produce, as this may trip the circuit breaker.

    Switch Devices

    • Plug the device connected to the generator into a different power source to verify that it is functioning properly. If the connected device fails to work on another power source, it may be the device that is inoperable, not the generator. Connect different devices to the generator to test its functionality.

    Fuel Valve

    • Confirm that the fuel valve is in the "On" position if the generator will not start or runs rough. This may also be due to a failed battery. Test the condition of the battery with a multimeter. Replace the battery if it is inoperable.

    Gasoline

    • Check the gasoline level if the generator shuts down during operation. Fill the fuel tank to the indicated level. A gasoline shortage will prevent the generator from operating.
