How to Create a Great Blog Post Structure
How do you write great content to engage your users and keep them on your page? The structure of your blog post plays a major part in defining its success.
Most people who are new to blogging look for the 'secret to writing the perfect blog post'.
Whilst there is no secret formula, there is a very simple structure that works well.
1.
The importance of learning how to write a great post introduction.
Treat your blog posts introduction as the sales pitch for the rest of the article.
Set out the expectations and the tone for the reader, so that they know what to expect.
2.
Create a powerful body (this is the main area for copy) If you fail to deliver in this area, you can forget about your users getting to the end of your post - most probably where you draw the highly intelligent conclusion.
In the last post in this series, I explained that you should never misleada reader with your title just to get their attention.
One of the main reasons this can backfire on you is in the body.
Once the reader begins to read your body text and realises that 'this is not what they thought' - they will switch off - even if you have something superb to say.
Simple truth is - no one likes to be taken for a fool.
The same 'general post rules' apply with main body content in your posts.
- Keep the user engaged - make them think about it - prompt them with questions.
- Keep it short.
- Make it relevant.
Draw a conclusion to summarise what you have written about.
Remind the user of the important points you have written about.
Remind them of your offerings, tell them where the value in the post is, or even give them something to take away from it.
4.
End your blog post with a call to action.
Think about it - if someone has taken the time to read your post from start to finish - you're in the perfect position to offer a call to action.
Tell the user what you want them to do next.
"Follow me on twitter", "Click here to buy the product I've just written about", "Call today to arrange a quotation".
So that's how you create a great structure to your blog posts.
