    • 1). Break the screw loose by hand so you will not damage the screw head by stripping it with a power screwdriver. Once it is turning, use a power screwdriver to remove it the rest of the way.

    • 2). Turn a stripped Phillips-head screw with a flat-tipped screwdriver. Try to break the screw loose by hand and remove it. If that does not remove the screw, use a screw removal tool. Use the side of the removal tool designed to remove stripped-head screws. Place the removal tool in your drill. Place the drill in reverse and center the removal tool on the screw head. Apply even pressure and start the drill slowly to remove the stripped screw from the wood.

    • 3). Flip the screw removal tool in the drill to remove screws that have broken off in the wood. Place the removal tool over the broken-off screw. Start the drill while pressing down on the bit. Once you have gone down 1/2 inch into the wood, flip the drill into reverse and extract the screw from the wood.

    • 4). Clamp a pair of needle-nose locking pliers onto the broken screw. The removal tool will remove wood around the screw so that you can get the tip of the pliers to lock onto the screw. Twist the pliers to remove the screw from the wood.
