But a dedicated, serious blogger first think of fundamental elements, albeit trivial, that imparts great to success.
Design or template is one such element.
Design is the very first medium which communicates with people.
There is an old saying that First impression is last impression.
Designed layout of the blog decides first impression on visitors.
My Observation Many times I and my friends surf together and talk about like and dislikes.
Sometimes a little group chat, during tea-time, with my colleagues helps me to figure out what a folk feel when they stumble upon a new blog or website.
If I am to come on some conclusions from such sporadic occasions and my observation on visitor-behavioral, it points out to little things.
If its experienced visitors (Bloggers)..

oWhat's on their mind? They visit site to examine what YOU have, and thus improve their own blog accordingly.
oAfter site is opened: First thing they do is throw a glance at the opened page.
If its general people (Mostly coming from search result, advertisements or reference link)..
..
oWhat's on their mind? They expect to see something different.
oAfter site is opened: First thing they do is looking for what they have landed on the page.
Design is the common thing that will make your blog more credible.
Activitiy perform by both novice and experienced one is they have a glance (or you can say scan the webpage at once) to decides whether the page is comfortable to go through.
The only way to impress the visitors within very short span of time of glancing-act is design, as it is the first thing of a site or blog that interact with the person.
