Specs for the Allis Chalmers FD5
- The Allis-Chalmers FD5 was powered by a Type 66 Vendeuvre four-stroke diesel engine. With a bore of 4.6 inches and a stroke of 5.2 inches, the 247-cubic-inch (4.05-L) engine had a fuel consumption of 1 gallon per hour.
- The FD5's transmission offered eight forward and four reverse gears. The tractor had forward working speeds of 0.93 mph to 15.22 mph and could travel backward at up to 7.33 mph. An engine speed of 1,080 rpm was required to get the power take-off spinning at its usual working speed of 540 rpm.
- The Allis-Chalmers FD5 was 129.92 inches long and 68.90 inches wide. The height to the steering wheel was 62.99 inches. The tractor weighed 5,410 lb. and had a fuel tank capacity of 18.5 gallons.
- Allis-Chalmers bought the Vendeuvre tractor plant at Vendeuvre-sur-Barse in 1959. The FD5 tractor was built in 1963 and 1964; the plant was closed in 1964. Later models of the FD5, designated FD5.0, were fitted with a four-cylinder Perkins P4 diesel engine that developed 59 horsepower.
