Productive Study Space - Part 1!
Any student of any age whether they are very young and spend little time there or an adult returning to complete or add to their education needs a work space where there is no distractions and that is also a relaxing place to study, somewhere that they can do what they need to without any stress or aggravation.
We all know that different things annoy different people whether it is a squeaky chair or a wobbly desk.
As with anything the right tools for the job are essential.
The room needs to be distraction free and so it is important to get the correct desk and chair as already mentioned.
You also need to make sure the room is correctly lit.
The position of the window and the room temperature is also a factor.
These are some of the things that won't help with concentration.
So I am going to offer my wisdom on this subject and advice you as to what I believe are vital requirements, as a mother of five and still studying.
Below are, in my opinion, some pointers on a productive study space: 1.
Choose a space that is not too small as it will end up having lots in it.
2.
Desk - when selecting the desk you must take it into account that the right size for the work to be done is purchased.
Please do note if it is purchased for a young child you must factor in that they may need it for University as well.
3.
Chair - This is also an important decision as the chair will be something that a great length of time will be spent on it.
I would advise that you don't get a wooden one.
By the same token don't get one too soft because if the student does get too comfortable they may not work to their full potential.
So make sure it is a good chair for the child or adult and that it can grow with them.
4.
Temperature - This is of key importance.
If the room is too cold or too warm concentration will be lost so my advice would be a Hunter ceiling fan with a light (see point 5 below - light) They are great for cooling and can also reuse the hot air trapped at the ceiling and so will be able to provide a happy working temperature! 5.
Lighting - This is important mainly because it can save on eye strain which can lead to headaches for one thing.
If the part of the room that is the study space is not properly lit then it will be harder to read anything required hence they will not concentrate on the subject at hand but more so on trying to do the reading.
Part 2 of my suggestions will follow soon so keep your eyes open on further advice from someone that is sitting at a desk a lot.
