Granite Finishing Tools

    • Granite from the quarry arrives in large blocks blasted out of the ground. The blocks are then cut into slabs using a commercial wet saw. The slabs arrive polished on one side before they are available at the stone dealer. The slabs can be worked with finishing tools to create custom counters and back splashes.

    Grinder

    • The grinder uses a series of grinding stones ranging from coarse to extra fine to polish the granite. The slabs come polished on one side from the stone supplier. The freshly cut edges need to be polished to match the sheen on the slab. A hand grinder can cut granite in confined spaces with a diamond blade attachment. Further, it can be used for oval and round cuts.

    Rail Saw

    • The rail saw cuts the granite slabs. The rail provides a track for the saw to run along, producing a perfectly straight cut. The rail saw uses a diamond blade that is water cooled. The rail saw can plunge cut to create sink and stove cutouts.

    Commercial Router

    • A commercial router produces a decorative edge on granite. The router turns a special router bit designed for stone. There are several styles of router bits that produce different profiles.
