Rail Budget 2011-2012 will be a prime concern for the ongoing Union Budget session.
In past few years the government successfully expanded the inherited rail network of 53,996 km to 64415 km which itself is a great achievement.
However, it could have been expanded more and this upcoming budget might help to achieve the dream of the Indians.
Lalu Prasad Yadav did tremendous job in increasing the railway revenue without any hike in passenger fare.
However, after his tenure the revenue did not remain consistent and suffered a loss of Rs.
4000 crore approximately in last fiscal year.
The big question in upcoming Rail Budget 2011-2012 will be whether the railway department will still suffer a loss in next fiscal year? The department is expecting double allocation of budget this time to overcome the previous losses.
However, the main decision goes to Finance Ministry of the country.
The Railways department raised a budget of Rs.
39,600 crore in the Rail Budget 2011-2012.
The department is expecting to repair the losses and keep up the ongoing new projects with this wholesome amount.
If the Finance Ministry favors in the upcoming Rail Budget 2011-2012, the department is aiming to further modernizing and changing the total infrastructure of the railways in the country.
According to Economic Survey report, the department needs to increase the number of coaches in the fiscal year 2011-2012 apart from the addition of extra trains and freight carriers.
Also the Railway Budget 2011-2012 will emphasize on safety issues for the passengers like - new signaling technique, train protection warning system, and installing Anti-collision devices.
The upcoming Union Budget is the seed for target vision 2020.
