Easy Costume Ideas for a Group of Guys
- Michael Jackson's appearance has changed through the decades -- so much so that you can create four different costumes based on his various looks. In the 70s, MJ frequently sported an afro, colorful bell-bottoms, platform shoes, a tucked-in, loud button-up shirt and a fringed vest. 80s-era Michael had several different looks -- for his "Beat It" video, he wore jheri-curled hair, tight black high-water pants to expose white socks underneath, black patent leather shoes, a tight, colorful top and a red leather jacket that hit at the hip.
An alternate 80s Michael wore aviator glasses, a black fedora and a military jacket with an armband wrapped around the right arm. During this time, he started wearing the iconic sequined glove on the right hand -- if you want to add that accessory, glue sequins or glitter to a regular glove.
In the 90s, Michael's clothes were often black and white, and he left his long, black hair loose or in a ponytail with wisps hanging around his face. There are many possibilities for Michael-related costumes, depending on the clothes you already have. For more ideas, watch Michael Jackson's old music videos and interviews. - Alex and his three droogs, Georgie, Pete and Dim wore a similar uniform -- decorated with bloody eyeballs -- to carry out violent actions. For this costume, each group member needs a cream or white pair of work pants; a white, long-sleeved shirt; cream or white suspenders; black army boots and a black hat. If you're dressing as Alex, make sure the hat is a bowler hat.
Make "eyeballs" by cutting ping-pong balls in half and drawing eyes on them. Glue eyeballs to Alex's cuffs, Dim's suspenders and Pete's shoulders, and paint a bit of red around them. Paint dots of blood on Georgie's shirt where nipples would be. The Alex character needs a false eyelash on the bottom of one eye.
All characters also wear codpieces, which can be hard to find. You can make codpieces by gluing cream or white fabric over an athletic cup and wearing the cup over your pants. There are other specific details for each droog, but few notice them. - If you and your friends still have once-trendy clothes from the mid to late 90s, break them out for a boy band costume. Dress according to whatever stock boy band "character" you wish to emulate:
The clean-shaven "sensitive one" should wear earth-toned pants with a V-neck T-shirt and an earth-toned shirt unbuttoned over it. The "rebellious one" should spike his hair up, groom his facial hair into a neatly styled goatee and wear a classic "Fonz" uniform of a leather jacket, jeans or leather pants and a white T-shirt. The "wild" guy should have messy or dreadlocked hair, a neat and styled goatee and lots of jewelry from a punk store at the mall. The "Justin Timberlake" of the group needs a sporty, stylish tracksuit with a gold chain. The "sporty" one should wear loose cargo pants or track pants that button all the way up on the sides, along with a muscle shirt.
Highlighted hair is a nice touch, as that was the style of the time. As with the Michael Jackson costume idea, watch the old music videos for further inspiration. - Not everyone knows what the Blue Man Group does -- they are a satirical music and comedy troupe -- but most will recognize their blue hands and heads and black clothes. To dress as the Blue Man Group, wear loose, black long-sleeved shirts and pants and blue swim caps to cover your hair. Paint your heads and hands with blue face paint. The Blue Man group uses blue grease paint to make them look shiny throughout the performance, but this may be messy.
