Signs of a Fungal Infection People who suffer from nail fungal infections may have brittle or crumbly nails.
The nails may become thick, dry and itchy while putting off a very unpleasant odor.
Many times these infections are caused by moisture and bacteria and they will not go away on their own, so treatment is necessary.
Using Vicks VapoRub Many people claim Vicks VapoRub can be used to get rid of a nail fungus infection, but does this treatment option really work? Some people claim it works by using a small cotton swab to apply the Vicks VapoRub to the area infected with the fungus.
This is best done before bedtime when you're less likely to be doing a lot of moving around after application.
It may be helpful to wear socks in order to protect Vicks from being rubbed or worn away.
Caution should be used as Vicks can stain and users, who had a positive result, claim it can take up to six months.
Treating Toenail Fungus with Listerine This is one of the more interesting toenail fungus treatment options I've come across.
Listerine is a strong bacteria fighting mouthwash and though many individuals claim this treatment works, it's something that has to be consistently and diligently done for a long period of time.
If it's something you think you want to try, be prepared to soak the infected area for at least 30 minutes a day for several days.
It would seem that one viable option might also be to mix a small amount of the Listerine with a moisturized base such as Vaseline to be applied liberally to the inflicted area several times a day and then wrapped for protection.
Whichever Listerine method you go with, this treatment option may take 2 or more months to completely rid the area of infection and allow new healthy nail to grow into place.
Apple Cider Vinegar If you pay attention, you've probably heard that apple cider vinegar has many health benefits.
Apple cider vinegar has natural fungal fighting properties because it's highly acidic.
The best method of application is to apply the apple cider vinegar directly to the infected area with a cotton swab and then protect the area by covering with a bandage.
This process should be done at least three times a day.
If you suffer from the fungus of the feet and not just the nail, you may want to submerge your foot (or hand) in a large bowl of apple cider vinegar for about 30 minutes.
You can also soak a bandage or cotton ball and bandage onto the infected area for 30 minutes three times a day.
Treatment of Bad Fungal Infections If you suffer from an extreme infection, home remedies may not be successful in treating your fungus.
In these cases, people should seek the opinion of their healthcare provider for more aggressive treatment options.
