    OnStar

    • All 2011 Colorado packages feature the OnStar system, with six months of OnStar service. OnStar uses global positioning system (GPS) technology, which utilizes cell phone and satellite engineering to pinpoint the exact location of vehicles. The system sends vehicle data to a command center, which OnStar staff can access in the event of an emergency such as an automobile collision. The automatic crash response technology automatically contacts the OnStar center with crash information and the exact location of the accident. Using built-in sensors, the system tells OnStar staff when an accident occurs, if the airbags deployed, the speed of the impact, if multiple impacts occurred and if the vehicle experienced a rollover. OnStar's emergency service allows users to contact the OnStar center with the push of a button and speak to a staff member in the event of an emergency. Using the GPS system, OnStar staff can pinpoint the vehicle's location and dispatch emergency service assistance. The GPS system can also help track stolen vehicles. After reporting a stolen automobile, OnStar staff can relay location information to law enforcement officials. OnStar staff can remotely activate the engine block technology, which prevents thieves from restarting a vehicle after turning off the ignition. Stolen vehicle slowdown technology, remotely activated by OnStar staff, can slow the speed of the vehicle to assist law enforcement efforts in apprehending thieves and recovering the automobile.
