Instructions for a Sharpening Stone
- 1). Lubricate the stone to make sharpening easier and quicker. Place the stone in a large pot and pour some light machine oil into it. You only need enough oil to completely cover the stone.
- 2). Sharpen your knife as necessary. Place the stone on a hard surface. Hold the knife at a 20-degree angle on the stone. Slide the knife, starting at its base, from the bottom corner of the stone to the opposite top corner. End with the tip of the knife at the very top corner of the stone. The point is to sharpen the entire blade in one sweep. Continue this several times on one side of the blade, then switch to sharpen the other side.
- 3). Rinse the stone under lukewarm water to remove any burrs and any remaining oil.
- 4). Pour 1 tbsp. of dish detergent onto the stone. Use a fine scouring pad to work the soap and water into a lather, cleaning both sides of the stone.
- 5). Rinse the stone thoroughly to remove all the soap.
- 6). Place the stone on several paper towels to air-dry.
