    Baking Soda, Soap and Oil

    • Mix an all purpose fungicide/insecticide spray by combining 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of liquid Ivory soap, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and a gallon of water. The liquid soap and oil will act as an insecticide, while baking soda is a natural fungicide.
Spray using a spray bottle on the top and bottom of plant leaves once a week. Baking soda is recommended to fight off any diseases insects may carry to the plant. You can leave baking soda out, combining only oil and liquid soap with water.

    Garlic and Pepper Mix

    • Steep 1/2 cup hot peppers such as habanero or chilli and 1/2 cup garlic cloves in 2 cups water for 24 hours. You can do this easily in a glass jar. Combine all ingredients and close the lid tightly. Leave the glass jar in a sunny spot. Strain and spray using a spray bottle onto plant foliage.

    Salt spray

    • A salt spray solution works well for household plants and to fight off spider mites which feed off of indoor plants. Add 2 tablespoons of salt to 1 gallon of water and spray household plants once a week.

    Alcohol spray

    • Alcohol spray works well for protecting household plants and herbs from insects. Mix 1 cup of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with a quart of water. Spray on a test leaf as some plant leaves are sensitive and can burn. Wait a day and if no adverse action is seen, spray on the rest of the plant leaves.
