The Love Hate Relation Between Men and Cologne
Since then the colonies have come a long way down the line, but one thing that has not changed is their low concentration of the extract. Before the invention of colognes, the only fragrance that people used to wear was natural masks and castoreum, which made this breakthrough a much hit among consumers. This was the first time when people started to wear a light perfume that was not so intense for regular wear. Back in those days the colonies were basically made from natural extracts like lemon and bergamot. Mixed with lavender and Clary sage, they even gave an interesting twist to the flavor which people enjoyed.
Over the years, the making of cologne has changed drastically and has got influenced by marketing. There are a lot of wholesale designer perfumes distributors, that portray colognes as a form of perfume. But in reality, both of them are different as the former falls into the category of Eau de toilette or Eau de parfum.
Colognes are especially known to be a male centric fragrance. In US alone cologne products enjoy a huge market, but are considered to be rugged scent which can be used on the daily basis. It does not hold the same status as come to Eau de toilette or Eau de parfum. Colognes are made with a very low form of concentration which is why they are not so expensive. Moreover, they do not last for a long period of time. Despite the fact that they are worn on a daily basis, they do not create the same sensation as compare with other products. Either you don't wear it at all or you wear it way too much. This is the reason why colognes are often considered to have a love hate relation with men.
There is no denying the fact that men's perfumes are not overpowering as compared to their female counterparts. While the concentration in men's fragrance is about 8-12% the same comes in at least 15% for females. On regular days, this difference might not seem much, but during summers, when sweat comes to the center stage and there is a need to spray the body with a little extra fragrance, this equation comes to the existence. A little extra spritz has never hurt anyone, but in terms of colognes and men, the fine line between no much and way too much is very thin. From sports to aqua, big brands have tried to entice male counterparts in many different ways, but in the end it all comes down to the preference of the end user and the personality they want to depict in terms of their signature scent.
