How to Remove Rain X

    • 1). Choose a cleanser. Regular soap and water will not break the silicon bond and remove the product. You need a cleanser that is mildly abrasive, like Soft Scrub or Bon Ami. The product should say on the label that it cleanses without scratching.

    • 2). Use a wet rag to clean off your windshield. This is not to remove the Rain X coating, but to remove any dirt, bird waste or any items that could scratch your windshield as you scrub off the Rain X.

    • 3). Wet your sponge. Apply the abrasive cleanser to your sponge, and not directly to your windshield. Your sponge is moist, and will keep the cleanser from drying out or caking on your windshield.

    • 4). Test your cleanser on the lower passenger side of your windshield. Make sure the abrasive isn't scratching or damaging your windshield. This will also give you a feel for how much cleanser to use and how much pressure to apply when cleaning the rest of your window.

    • 5). Begin in one corner of your windshield and scrub lightly, using small, circular motions. Keep the area wet by rewetting the sponge and adding more cleanser as needed. Once you've cleaned the entire windshield, rinse with clean water. Get inside the car, and look through the windshield to see any missed spots. Repeat the cleansing treatment on the missed spots, and rinse.
