Smoke Odor Removal Sprays
- Cheap and effective, white vinegar deodorizes without chemicals. Pour undiluted white vinegar into a spray bottle and mist the air to eliminate smoke odor. Keep in mind that vinegar does have a strong smell. However, this odor will dissipate as the vinegar evaporates. You can dilute the vinegar with equal parts water for a less pungent aroma but it will take longer for the smoke odor to dissipate.
- Baking soda will remove even the toughest odors. An inexpensive box of baking soda is available in the baking aisle of grocery stores. Dissolve 1/2 cup of baking soda in a spray bottle filled with water. Swirl the bottle around in a circular motion for several seconds until the baking soda and water are thoroughly mixed. Mist the room with the spray to remove smoke odor.
- Mix 2 cups of water with 30 drops of an essential oil and pour it into a spray bottle. A variety of essential oils are available, so choose a scent that you find pleasant and calming. Sage, orange, lavender, tea tree oil and grapefruit are a few common essential oils that will remove smoke odors and freshen your home. You can switch scents by making a small batch with a different essential oil every few weeks.
- A common fragrance in commercial cleaners, lemon will fill the air with a citrus scent while removing odors. Mix 2 cups of cool water with 1/2 cup of lemon juice and pour it into a spray bottle. You can purchase lemon juice in a bottle or hand-squeeze fresh lemons yourself. Mist the air with the mixture as often as needed. Alternatively, add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to a spray bottle filled with equal parts water and white vinegar. The vinegar will remove difficult odors while the lemon juice masks the pungent vinegar odor.
- Vanilla is a common scent in many commercial air fresheners and with good reason. Found in the baking aisle of grocery, vanilla extract will fill the room with a pleasant scent. Use a spoon to mix 1 cup of water with 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract. Carefully pour the mixture in a clean spray bottle and mist the air to remove smoky odors. Repeat the process as needed.
