Removing Rusted Aboveground Pool Screws
- 1). Drain the pool of all the water. Most aboveground pools have a plug that can be unscrewed to empty the water.
- 2). Spray a generous amount of WD-40 on the rusty screws. Allow the WD-40 to soak in for 30 minutes to an hour. This will enable the lubricant to work its way down the screw hole.
- 3). Insert the correct screwdriver into the screw head. Depending on the type of screw, it could need a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver.
- 4). Turn the screw slowly counterclockwise. Press firmly into the screw to prevent the screwdriver from slipping and stripping the screw head.
- 5). Use vise-grip pliers if the screw head becomes stripped. Lock them tightly onto the screw and rotate counterclockwise. Continue to unscrew until it is removed from the pool.
