How to Find a Public Police Record in Ohio
- 1). Visit your local police division's website. Some police divisions, such as the Division of Police in Columbus, Ohio, have an online search engine for users to search for police reports. You can search reports by entering the report number or the victim's last name. You can also search by location, date and crime type.
- 2). Order crash reports electronically or by mail. Go online to the Ohio State Highway Patrol website, http://crsweb.dps.state.oh.us/crashreports/, and complete the online form. The report will be sent to your e-mail account within 24 hours.
To receive a hard copy of the report, fill out the crash report application and mail it along with a check or money order to the Ohio State Highway Patrol office. Applications can take up to four weeks to be processed. - 3). Visit your local Ohio police department. Some police departments, such as the Marion County Sheriff's Office, conduct records requests if you show up in person. The Marion County Sheriff's Office prints the first 10 pages for free, but charges a small fee for additional pages. You can also ask for a CD of the report, but you will be charged for the cost of the CD.
