Did you know? You can achieve a midwifery masters degree from us at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Health Sciences by successfully completing the Advanced Clinical Practice Midwifery programme.

This advanced clinical practice midwifery masters degree pathway will enable you to strengthen your existing knowledge, skills and competencies, whilst also preparing you for roles that require greater autonomy, responsibility and more complex clinical decision making.

To be accepted onto this advanced clinical practice midwifery masters course you will need: A first degree (2:2 class or above) or equivalent in a relevant subject from an approved institution of higher education. You will also need a current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in midwifery.

Furthermore, this advanced clinical practice midwifery masters degree's enrolment criteria also require you to have: a current or recent relevant job contract in a clinical or clinically related area; at least two years relevant post registration clinical experience; and at least one satisfactory reference (on some occasions a second reference will be required).

The pass mark on the advanced clinical practice midwifery masters degree is 50%.Taught modules typically require attendance at five to six taught days, although some modules may require attendance of between seven and ten days.

Teaching on this midwifery masters degree pathway is usually one day per week for the duration of the module. The two core modules 'Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice' and the dissertation are taught via blended learning with four day's attendance at action learning groups supported by on-line learning.

It is also possible to study a single or double work based learning module requiring one day's attendance combined with learning in the workplace and self directed learning. Minimum attendance on the advanced clinical practice midwifery MSc is therefore around 26 days over two to five years - but around 35 days is more usual, and up to 45 days may be required depending on module choice.
