What Is the Normal Range for a Morning Glucose Level?
- When your blood sugar dips too low, it is known as hypoglycemia. When your blood sugar rises too high, it is known as hyperglycemia. Both of these can cause symptoms and serious problems within the human body.
- A normal range for morning blood sugar levels is 70 to 100 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). This is known as a "fasting" level, since the person has not yet eaten.
- Once you do eat, normal blood sugar will rise to a level not exceeding 140 mg/dL. This daily range of 70 to 140 mg/dL is the sign of a well-controlled blood sugar level.
- If your blood sugar level drops even 5 mg/dL, to a level of 65 or below, you may start to feel shaky and agitated. This will resolve itself upon eating. A drop under 50 mg/dL may bring on more serious symptoms that require medical attention.
- If your blood sugar level rises to a level of 180 or more, your practitioner will find glucose in your urine. A rise over 400 mg/dL may bring on more serious symptoms that require medical attention.
