- 1). Pull out the spark plug from your Tomos. It will be located in the engine block, underneath the carburetor. Replace it with a new one. No matter how old your moped is, a fouled spark plug will make your engine stop running. They are inexpensive to replace and can immediately cure your engine problems.
- 2). Remove the two screws holding the carburetor onto the moped. The carburetor is located beneath the gas tank, near the front of the bike. Unscrew the two screws holding it onto the frame, and gently pry it off the engine block. Place it on a piece of paper towel.
- 3). Strip down the carburetor. Remove the plastic float bowl on the bottom using your screwdriver, then disassemble the throttle assembly. Pay attention to how it is put together in the carburetor so you can put it all back together again.
- 4). Blow air throughout the whole carburetor, getting every single nook and cranny in the piece. Make sure you get the brass-colored jet, located in the middle of the carburetor. This piece controls the fuel flow to the engine.
- 5). Soak the carburetor in a bowl filled with carburetor cleaner overnight. This will remove any excess gunk left behind after blowing the air through it.
- 6). Remove the ignition cover of the moped using a wrench. It is located on the right side of the moped, right next to the pedals. There are three to six bolts holding this plastic piece on. Remove them.
- 7). Locate the flywheel. This is the metal wheel on the right-hand side of the ignition that spins when the pedals turn. It has holes in it, which is where the ignition points are located.
- 8). Cut the sandpaper into 3/8 inch pieces, and slide them into the ignition points. These points are in-between the holes in the flywheel, and look like plant buds. Pry them open with your screwdriver, and slide the sandpaper into them, pulling it out when they close. This process removes any dirt on the ignition points. Do this multiple times on the five ignition points on the moped.
- 9). Replace the ignition cover, and try running the moped. It should start and run. If it does not, it's time to take it into a repair shop to have the mechanics there take a look at it.
