Snack Foods for Kids
- This is a fun activity for kids. Cut up celery into pieces about 4 inches long. Give each child a plastic knife to spread peanut butter. Have children add raisins and enjoy. The peanut butter provides protein needed for muscle growth.
- Buy whole-grain or low-fat crackers. Arrange around cubes of low-fat cheese. Most children love cheese and need the calcium. Try different cracker flavors and different types of cheeses to give some variety.
- Layer low-fat yogurt, strawberries and blueberries in a clear plastic cup. Sprinkle granola on top. This snack provides calcium, vitamin C and antioxidants.
- Air-pop popcorn. Sprinkle on grated Parmesan cheese, or use flavored oil or small amounts of butter for flavor. Add raisins for variety.
- Break a graham cracker in half. Place a piece of chocolate and a large marshmallow on one piece. Put the other cracker on top. Microwave for five seconds to melt.
- Combine different types of cereal, crackers, pretzels, dried fruit and M&Ms in a bowl. Divide into sandwich bags or containers for an on-the-go snack.
