How to Throw a Good 4th of July Party
- 1). Select a time and location for the party, set a budget and make the guest list.
- 2). Buy invitations, balloons, plates, napkins, utensils, tea candles and fireworks. Stick small flags into mason jars filled with white sand to create a centerpiece. Place large red, white and blue star stickers on plain tablecloths and metal tubs. Punch designs into white and red paper bags, put sand in the bottom and top with a lit tea candle to create lanterns.
- 3). Mail the invitations approximately three weeks prior to the party. Rent or borrow extra tables and chairs.
- 4). Select activities and games. For example, kids may enjoy making tiaras like the Statue of Liberty or Uncle Sam's hat. Fill balloons for a water fight and set up volleyball and badminton equipment. Choose family appropriate music.
- 5). Prepare a variety of foods like ribs, red potato salad, tomato, basil and mozzarella salad, chicken burgers and blue cheeseburgers with jalapeno stuffed green olives. Children may prefer hot dogs, fruit kabobs and chips. Make mini sour cream tarts topped with blueberries and strawberries for dessert.
- 6). Set off the fireworks as soon as it gets dark. Have a water hose ready and a volunteer to wet every firecracker after it has been used to prevent fires.
- 7). Clean up the used firecrackers, empty plates and trash.
