1Power on the calculator by pressing the yellow button on the upper right side of the calculator, directly below the screen and above the arrow keys.

Look at the math problem you need to solve. You will punch in the problem almost exactly as it is written. If the question asks you to add 1/4 and 12/17 together you will need to place curved brackets around each fraction. In other words, type the question in the TI 83 calculator to look like (1/4) + (12/17). The slanted line in between the one and four and the 12 and 17 is the divide button.

Press the "Enter" button and you will receive your answer on the screen.
