How to Use Corn As an Alternative Heating Fuel
- 1). Provide your corn burning stove with an area suitable for outdoor ventilation--similar to a clothes dryer vent--nd proximity to an electrical outlet.
- 2). Protect your fuel from contamination by vermin and moisture. Dry, shelled corn should be stored in air tight containers.
- 3). Install the stove according to the manufacturers' specifications.
- 4). Start the fire with wood pellets and starter gel in the burn pot. Do not kindle with corn. Corn does not ignite easily.
- 5). Remove corn from the storage container and feed the required amount of kernels into the hopper. The fuel will burn in the stove in much the same way as pellets burn in pellet burning appliances.
- 6). Check the ash pan, clear the burn pot and inspect the heat exchanger every 24 hours.
- 7). Once a week, shut the system down for maintenance by turning the control to "off" and not by unplugging the system. Check the venting and clear the storage hopper of any debris or dirty corn.
- 8). At the end of the season clean and lightly lubricate the stove and its component parts
