Ideas for a 40th Birthday and Gifts
- Some people can laugh about turning 40. If your friend or loved one can take a good ribbing, consider purchasing them a gift that pokes fun at getting older. Ideas for gag gifts include "Over the Hill" gift bags, baskets stuffed with candy pills, anti-aging soap and anti-aging spray that is also a room deodorant and humorous books, like "You Know You're Over 40 When..."
- For the more serious (or sensitive) person turning forty, you can find a memorable, meaningful gift without spending a fortune. A decorative photo album that you can fill with pictures from their party later, or a newspaper copy from the day the birthday girl or boy was born can make a great gift. (See Reference 2)
- Some people may not want to go all out on their 40th birthday and prefer a smaller party. These birthday boys and girls prefer to spend the time with their closest family and friends instead of having a large get-together with everyone they have ever met. You can still personalize the invitations that look like a magazine with the birthday boy or girls picture on it. Activities for your small get-together include setting up a projector with pictures of the birthday boy or girl. As you document the person's life through photographs, you can have their loved ones share stories and fond memories.
- If your friend or loved one enjoys a big to-do about their birthday, you can customize the theme to his or her taste. You can do what many people laughingly call a "pub crawl" and move from one location to another, enjoying drinks, dinner and dancing. You can also perform a "roast," where the guests lovingly joke about the guest-of-honor. (See Reference 4)
