I Don"t Need To Buy Self Defense Products and Non Lethal Weapons
Casually, the subject of self defense products and non lethal weapons was unintentionally brought up into our conversation.
"Oh, I don't need to buy TASER weapons, stun guns, or a pepper spray", he said.
"Do you mind telling us why?", my wife questioned.
"Well, I am a man, and I have these two fists to rely on", he answered.
"There's nothing like a good, old fashion punch in somebody's face to show him how a real man like me should be respected.
That's much better than using self defense products such as a stun guns, and it is definitively cheaper!".
My wife looked at me, with a philosophical smile on her face.
I got her message: she wanted me to give him my male point of view on the subject.
"Have you seen the FBI's latest statistics?", I asked him.
"In 2007, 78.
5 of murder victims were male.
Fists were not a great help to any of them".
"Why?", my friend asked.
"Well, in 68% of those cases the victims were killed with a firearm, while knives were used in 12.
1% of the assassinations.
So you see, fists are not enough: you need to buy effective non lethal weapons and self defense products to give you the necessary edge you need to survive".
"I concur with Dan", my wife added.
Fred protested: "Ok, I can accept that when you put it that way, but in such a case I would still get a firearm: I would not buy non lethal self defense products".
This time my wife took the lead.
"Do you have a family, Fred?".
"You know I do, I have a wife and two children", he responded.
My wife continued: "Did you know that the risks of serious injury or death increase for innocent bystanders if you miss your target?".
"Well, there are always casualties in war", Fred responded precipitately, smiling, not fully understanding where my wife was headed at.
She continued: "Have you ever considered that bystanders might be members of your own family?".
"Oh...
", was all that Fred could answer.
This time he was not smiling.
Fred is not a bad person.
In fact, he was just uninformed, just as many men (and women) who still think the same way he used to.
I retook the lead: "Did you know that just owning a gun can actually get you killed? According to the latest FBI statistics, over 95% of CIVILIANS who get shot, GET SHOT with their OWN GUN!".
This time, he remained silent.
"Additionally", I continued, "many citizens consider that firearms are too dangerous to have at home, specially if they have kids: many of them have broken the security created by their parents, gaining access to such lethal devices.
That's a fact".
"But a non lethal weapon is no match for a shotgun! For instance, I would never use a stun gun against someone who is pointing a gun at me", he protested.
This time my wife answered: "You are right to some extend, Fred.
Although stun guns are great self defense weapons against unarmed attackers, they are no match for firearms since stun guns require close contact with your attacker.
But...
Did you know that TASER devices (which, by the way, can shoot its probes for up to 15 feet away) have proven to have a higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm hand gun, according to police studies? Do you know why that is so important, Fred? Think about it: Even shooting a criminal doesn't always stop the attack immediately in all cases, for even a wounded assailant can still be dangerous for some time afterwards.
That doesn't happen when you use a TASER weapon...
or even a long range pepper spray, as a matter of fact".
"OK, you may be right", answered Fred.
"But why are we talking about this, for God's sake? Nothing has ever happened to me so far.
I don't even go to dangerous places like I used to, and neither does my family.
We totally enjoy being at home.
I don't think something bad will ever happen to us".
His no verbal language reflected he was trying to convince himself more than he was trying to convince us.
"I know this is not an easy subject to talk about, Fred", I answered.
"But just ignoring the danger doesn't make it go away.
You know there is absolutely no safe place nowadays.
A thief might even break into your home in plain daylight and put your life -and your family's life- in great danger.
It can happen right now.
It can happen tomorrow, or in a month.
To make things even worse, the police can usually get involved after the violent incident has already occurred most of the times".
Fred was listening to our words, with an interested look in his face.
"The harsh realities of life are still out there, whether you recognize them or not, Fred", continued my wife.
"Robberies, assaults, rapes, kidnappings, murders, car thefts, household burglaries...
many people think of these events as rare events that can happen to everyone else, denying or minimizing the possibility that it can happen to themselves as well, or to a loved one.
But luck can change for all of us at any moment, and not necessarily for the best.
Even with today's relatively low crime rates, the average American has an 80% chance of being the victim of violent crime over the course of a lifetime.
One serious crime happens every second in the United States, and a crime of violence every 5 seconds".
By now, Fred was almost convinced..
"Maybe I should protect myself and my loved ones as soon as possible after all", he whispered, as if he was talking to himself.
I decided to continue my wife's line of thought: "Your loved ones' safety, as well as your own, should be on top of your priority list, Fred.
Too many people took safety for granted and have suffered mayor incapacitating physical injuries, emotional trauma and even death, while attempting to resist or escape from an unexpected attacker.
But it doesn't have to be that way for you and your family.
Real alternatives exists.
You're still in time to join the growing number of protected individuals whose futures are less in the hands of fate and more in the hands of intelligent prevention and the technological help that self defense products can provide".
"OK, I'm convinced: Maybe I do need to buy a non lethal self defense weapon after all", Fred said.
I continued talking to him: "Self defense products should be considered a basic need nowadays, not a luxury.
Your life, and that of your loved ones, may depend on whether or not you buy a non lethal self defense weapon today to defend yourself with.
We are telling you all this because we really care about you, Fred", we concluded.
"I know, guys...
thanks!", answered Fred.
That little conversation changed our friend's life...
forever.
Fred did take our advice seriously: He ordered two pepper gels (one for him, one for his wife).
From then on, man and wife always carried their non lethal self defense weapons wherever they went to.
Their new habit paid off...
big time.
What happened? Here's what: two months later, after having enjoyed a dinner and a movie, he and his wife were attacked by a drugged assailant who threatened to kill them with a knife if they didn't hand over their money and their car.
But things were even worse than that: he demanded on taking Fred's wife as a hostage as well! "He was acting very violently toward us", Fred told me, still affected by the whole experience.
"I fully understood your words right there and then: my fists would not help me in such a dangerous situation.
Thank God I had my Pepper Gel at hand: when he took a swing at me with his knife, I immediately pushed the pepper gel's fire bottom without hesitation, and boy, was he instantly incapacitated when that gel hit his ugly face! I was very nervous at first...
who wouldn't be? But the Pepper Gel made it very easy to defend myself and my wife that night".
"God, both of you could have been dead by now!", my wife told him, with a worried look in her face.
Fred continued: "We really owe our life to that little self defense products conversation we had a couple of months ago, and to those cheap but really powerful spray products I didn't know we needed so much!".
"That is absolutely right", my wife interrupted him, "but most of all, you owe it to yourself, Fred.
You really opened up your mind and listened to a good advice", my wife answered.
"We are really glad you are here with us again, Fred" I added, as I congratulated Fred, the friend I almost lose.
He smiled.
What about you, dear reader? Who knows what life might have in store for you and your loved ones in a nearby future.
Will you follow a good advice, just like Fred did? We really hope so.
Buy non lethal self defense products (such as TASER weapons, stun guns or pepper sprays) for you and your loved ones today.
Remember: not living a preventive lifestyle has higher economic and emotional costs than investing in a much needed self-defense product today.
Think about those you love the most and act right now...
before it is really too late.
