- 1). Clean off the flange area. Remove all remnants of any old wax rings with a putty knife. Vacuum up any construction debris with a Shop Vac.
- 2). Turn the flange extender over. Insert a tube of silicone caulk into the caulk gun. Trim off the end to the one-quarter mark. Apply a thin bead of caulk around the perimeter of the flange extender.
- 3). Turn the extender right side up and place it on top of the current flange, twisting as you do so to spread the caulk. Secure it with the flange extension screws. Insert the flange bolts, threads up, into the flange extension.
- 4). Press the wax ring onto the flange extension.
- 5). Turn the toilet bowl over. Apply a thin bead of caulk along the bottom edge. Return the toilet to an upright position. Lower it over the flange so that the outlet on the toilet bottom lines up with the flange, ensuring that the flange bolts poke up through the holes in the base of the toilet. Press the bowl firmly into the floor once it's aligned.
- 6). Slip the plastic and metal washers over the flange bolts. Tighten the bolts by hand. Tighten the bolt on one side by one turn with a wrench. Do the same to the other. Repeat this process until the bowl is secure.
- 7). Place the tank on the back of the toilet, ensuring that the cone gasket on the bottom of the tank lines up with the inlet on the bowl. Insert the tank bolts and washers through the holes at the bottom of the tank and secure with the bolts from below. Wrap the pipe inlet on the tank with plumber's tape. Connect the water supply hose.
- 8). Turn on the water supply. Allow the tank to fill. Flush the tank and ensure that there are no leaks. Caulk around the base of the toilet.
