How to Get Two Stuck Metal Lids Apart
- 1). Pull the lids apart gently with your hands. Don't force the pieces of metal. If you exert too much pressure you can bend the metal and permanently stick the pieces together. If the pieces don't separate with gentle pressure, use further measures.
- 2). Place the stuck pieces into a glass or plastic bowl. Make sure that the bowl is large enough to hold all the stuck pieces without crowding.
- 3). Fill the bowl with cold tap water. Add half a tray of ice cubes. Allow the lids or rings to sit in the cold water for 20 minutes.
- 4). Remove the stuck pieces from the water and gently pull them apart. The cold water should have caused the metal in the lids and rings to contract, making them easier to separate.
