Growing Into Old Age
You ever see an older person out perform a younger person, and you think to yourself, I hope I'm still that good when I get their age.
It is no surprise that people get older as time passes, but there is a difference between getting older and growing into old age.
Getting old is constantly happening and unfortunately, time is unstoppable.
Growing into old age starts as a mental state that takes time to develop into a painful physical state, the need to do a lot of things that people did in the past are no longer necessary, and suddenly they are mentally too old to do anything, but are still physically able to.
After some time of eliminating the need to do stuff, and actually getting in habit of doing absolutely as little as possible, the muscles become useless and begin to deteriorate.
Medical growing old problems start to arise, like heart problems, blood pressure problems, high cholesterol, muscle cramps, weight problems, etc...
Think about it, the heart is a group of muscles and just like any of our muscles, if you stop using them, they eventually stop working like they did in the past.
If the heart rate stays at a constant slow pace for a very long time, with little interruption or movements that challenge the muscles and cause the heart rate to fluctuate, then it will allow build-up in the bloodstream.
Bad habits also cause long-term growing old problems, like slouching while sitting and standing is the cause of really bad back pain for the future.
Those same back problems are the very painful justification for growing into old age, because simple movement becomes too painful and soon a habit of avoiding pain becomes necessary to simply make it through the day.
You ever wonder how people get shorter as time passes? The spinal alignment has been altered, due to years of bad habits and the muscles are sagging into the direction that it is mostly sustained, downward.
The older we get makes it all the more necessary for us to maintain an active lifestyle and not allow our muscles to be deemed useless.
Somehow, people have managed to put age limits on many of the daily activities that provide our bodies with the necessary movements/exercise that we all need, in order to maintain healthy living.
People get a certain age where they have slowly eliminated each of the simple activities that kept them busy in the past.
A comfort level of doing less and taking the easy way out is easily obtained, but maintaining it eventually becomes a painful problem, not to mention, costly, because it adds up to medical bills.
Adding necessary activity to your daily routine is not, at all, complicated, nor is it a major life changing event.
Exercise doesn't have to be "exercise".
Some people just think about the word "exercise" and get exhausted, but simply adding activity to one's lifestyle is not quite the same.
For instance, stretching can be done throughout the day, while performing many of our daily routines, like while cooking, or talking on the phone, or watching TV, or reading, or surfing the internet, etc..
..
There are many more opportunities to stretch a muscle or a group of muscles that don't take up any extra time of the day.
Sitting up straight is something that everyone should practice and make a habit of doing, it will eliminate future medical back problems, keep that spinal cord stretched out in perfect alignment.
Get out of the bad habit of slouching.
Deep breathing is another way to add activity to one's lifestyle and can be done at any given time throughout the day while doing pretty much anything.
Deep breathing is often taken for granted, but there are many benefits to the human body from this simple activity.
When walking, where ever it is necessary to walk, try to changing the pace or force yourself to go a little further and pay attention to the way you walk, keep the spinal cord straight.
Another thing you can do is to raise your arms up above your head and reach for the sky.
Also, can be done many times of the day and there are many benefits to performing this activity! And there are many more simple activities that can be added according to one's particular already existing lifestyle.
The key is to slowly add a little more wherever and whenever possible.
We can't control the fact that we are all getting older, but we can control our bodies from growing old.
Growing into old age is a mental state that takes a lot of time of avoiding and neglecting the body with the necessary activities to maintain healthy living.
Get in the habit of adding and maintaining activities to your already existing lifestyle and you will avoid the negative impact of growing into old age.
