    • 1). Shake the elk hide over the edge of a railing to remove large particles before vacuuming.

    • 2). Vacuum the elk hide with the brush attachment on your vacuum. Go with the direction of fur to keep from stressing the hair.

    • 3). Mix 5 drops of gentle liquid soap with about 2 cups of water to clean spots or spills from the elk hide. A natural soap with few added chemicals is best.

    • 4). Soak up excess liquid with paper towels if the spill is still damp.

    • 5). Dip a rag in the soapy water and gently scrub the elk hide where there are spills. It is OK to scrub against the hair grain to remove tough stains. Keep the rag damp, but not wet. The hide should never get soaking wet.

    • 6). Let the hide air-dry in a warm, dry place.

    • 7). Brush the elk hide with a hair brush to smooth and soften the hair.
