How to Fasten Cement Board
- 1). Measure the area where you plan to install the cement board. Plan the arrangement so you are able to use as many complete sheets as possible. This reduces the number of seam gaps in the overall surface.
- 2). Locate and mark the positions of the floor joists with the stud finder. You should screw into these to keep the cement board from moving or squeaking when walked on.
- 3). Place the largest sheets of cement board on the sub-floor and use the drill to screw them into place. Sink the screws below the surface of the cement board. This provides a smoother fit when installing the floor covering.
- 4). Measure and cut additional pieces and install them. Place a small bead of bathroom caulk along each seam to help improve the waterproofing capabilities.
