How to Design a Help Wanted Sign
- 1). Determine the size of the sign. Think about the sign's placement in the window and how big the sign can be. It may need to be bigger than a standard sheet of paper, but something the size of a poster board may be too big.
- 2). Think about how the sign will be laid out. Many traditional "Help Wanted" signs simply state the message in big block letters on a colored background. However, your sign does not need to look like that. Perhaps you want the words to be on one line (as opposed to the normal two), or you want to add your company logo. Instead of using a red background, you may decide to go with your company colors. This planning will go a long way when it comes time to make the sign.
- 3). Draw out your sign. If you are using a computer, go ahead and set the page size to what you decided (it may go over more than one standard page of paper) and type out your words to get an idea of size. If you are making the sign by hand, draw out the sign with pencil to get the spacing correct.
- 4). Fill in the color and give the sign definition. On the computer, add the graphic for your company and position it where it needs to be. Make sure your page and lettering are the correct color. On your handmade sign, carefully paint your lettering, being careful not to paint something a color it is not supposed to be. The longer you work on this, the better it will look.
- 5). Print out the sign if you are working on a computer. The sign may be in several pieces that need to be taped together.
- 6). Hang the sign up in your display window. You want to make sure it is securely fastened to the window by either taping it to the window or getting a plastic suction cup, sticking that to the window, and then hanging the sign from that.
