How to Put Gel Seats on Motorcycles
- 1). Find a direct replacement gel seat. This is the simplest, if not always the cheapest option. Seat makers such as Saddleman and Corbin make direct replacement gel seats for many motorcycle makes and models. Then it is simply a matter of removing your old seat, and replacing it with the new one. On most motorcycles this is a fairly simple process described in the owners manual.
- 2). Have your seat reupholstered with a gel insert inside. If you have a custom seat, or a rare motorcycle that manufacturers no longer make seats for, this may be your best option. Shops that specialize in automotive upholstery usually can do motorcycle seats fairly easily as well. Gel pads are available from motorcycle parts suppliers, or the upholstery shop may have a source for them. Check pricing and use the option that is the most affordable for your application.
- 3). Install a gel pad on top of your current seat. A few aftermarket manufacturers offer gel pads that come in various sizes and have Velcro straps. To install these gel pads, simply remove your seat, and place the Velcro straps around the seat underneath, securing the gel pad in the desired position. Tighten the straps securely and replace your seat on your motorcycle.
