How to Get a Glazed Cabinet
- 1). Apply masking tape along the areas where the cabinets join with the wall and ceiling.
- 2). Place drop cloths over counters and floor areas that may be affected during the application.
- 3). Use a screw driver to remove knobs and handles from the cabinets. Take out drawers and place them onto a drop cloth.
- 4). Fill a basin with a solution of water and all-purpose cleaner, mixed according to package directions. Use a soft cloth to thoroughly wash the cabinets. Allow them to air dry.
- 5). Open the premixed glaze and stir with a wooden paint stick. Alternately, you may prepare your own glaze by mixing one part paint or stain with four parts water.
- 6). Use a natural bristle paintbrush to apply the glaze to each cabinet and drawer. Apply the glaze with the cabinet grain for the most uniform appearance.
- 7). Wipe over each cabinet with a lint-free cloth to remove excess glaze. Do this as you go so that the glaze doesn't begin to dry before the excess is removed.
- 8). Replace the drawers, knobs and handles after the glaze dries completely, which takes approximately 10 hours. Also remove the strips of masking tape.
