    • 1). Gain access to the roof by setting a ladder against the roof eaves in a safe manner. Follow all instructions printed on the ladder for proper and safe usage.

    • 2). Unroll the tarp over the damaged area of the roof. The full size of the tarp must cover the damaged area and extend past it on all sides by at least 4 feet. Cut the tarp to size, if applicable, with a razor knife.

    • 3). Wrap one end of the tarp around the 2-inch by 4-inch furring strip. The furring strip should be longer than the tarp by at least 2 feet. In other words, 1 foot of the furring strip should extend beyond both ends of the tarp.

    • 4). Lay the 2-inch by 4-inch furring strip against the roof. Nail the tarp and 2-inch by 4-inch furring strip into the roof with a hammer and nails.

    • 5). Set another 2-inch by 4-inch board on top of the first. Secure this board to the roof with some more nails. Install nails approximately 10 inches on the center down the sandwiched tarp and double-layered 2-inch by 4-inch boards.

    • 6). Stretch the tarp tightly over the damaged area. Install another set of two layered 2-inch by 4-inch boards in the same manner as described in Steps 3 and 4.

    • 7). Hold down the edges of the tarp by laying out the furring strips 10 inches apart down the vertical length of the roof. Nail the 2-inch by 4-inch boards into place. Make sure all sides of the tarp are secure with the 2-inch by 4-inch furring strips.
