How to Refinish Furniture With Wood Veneer
- 1). Dull the existing surface of the furniture with a vibrating hand sander and medium-grit sandpaper. Remove all shine. Wipe off the dust.
- 2). Measure the dimensions of each area of the furniture to be covered in veneer. Mark out the dimensions on sheets of veneer using a pencil and square. Add one inch of overhang around perimeter of each marked measurement.
- 3). Cut out the veneer along the lines using a utility knife.
- 4). Pull off the paper from the back of the first veneer piece to expose the adhesive backing. Press the veneer to the appropriate area, leaving an inch of extra overhang.
- 5). Use a utility knife to cut off the extra veneer from the edges of the area.
- 6). Wrap a wood block in a dry washcloth and press it down on the veneer to secure the veneer. Press the block down on each span.
