How to Remove Ceramic Tile Flooring From a Bathroom
- 1). Remove the toilet by turning off the water line, draining the water in the tank and bowl (by flushing), disconnecting the toilet with your wrench, and then taking out the mounting bolts that hold the toilet to the floor. Remove everything else from the room that can be taken out.
- 2). Cover the tub, sink and all other permanent fixtures with cloth tarps. Put on long-sleeved clothing, gloves and goggles.
- 3). Lay a cloth tarp over the middle of the floor, folded over a few times. Use the sledgehammer to hit the floor through the tarp. Hit it with enough force to crack and shatter the ceramic tile under the tarp.
- 4). Remove the tarp. Shovel up the shattered tiles that are loose, putting them in a garbage can. Use the crowbar to pry up the broken edges of the loosened tiles around the edges of the broken area.
- 5). Repeat the process as needed, laying down the tarp, smashing the tiles, then scooping and prying. Do the whole floor, using caution around the tub and sink.
- 6). Scrape up any residual mortar and material with the floor scraper.
