- 1). Observe any sharp, intense pain in the penis or scrotum. If you experience a sharp, stinging pain, you may have a bruised or even torn the tunica albuginea.
- 2). Check for any discoloration or bruising in the penis or testes. If the tunica is damaged, there will usually be darkened or discolored areas on the genitals. This is caused by a hematoma that forms under the skin in the penis because of damage in the tunica albuginea.
- 3). Observe any unnatural swelling in the penis or testicles. This would be swelling without erection and would often be severely painful. This could be the result of a tear in the tunica albuginea or the result of a cyst on the tunica albuginea.
- 4). Look for blood around the penis or in the urine. This is often a sign that the tunica albuginea has broken.
