Everyday Food Can Contribute to Acid Reflux

If you want to make a change in your diet for the purpose of controlling your heartburn, eliminating the ones that cause suffering is the first step.
A lot of people just assume that their medication will take care of the problem and they can continue to eat whatever they wish.
Not only the food itself but the amount you eat is a contributing factor to reflux.
Understanding this is the first step in choosing foods that do not cause this problem.
By eating less and avoiding the foods that are causing reflux you may either control or cure this problem.
Trouble digesting certain foods and anything that has a lot of acid can cause it.
One food that is known to cause is red meat.
High amounts of enzymes in this meat will often cause acid reflux especially for those who consume a lot of it.
If you are on a diet or just watching your weight, lean meats, fish, and poultry are the perfect solution.
If you feel as though you are starving if you do not have red meat, eat in moderation and only once or twice a week.
For many this is one of the hardest foods to give up, however doing so will eliminate the suffering.
Red meat is not the only cause of this problem.
Fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, limes, and lemons, as well as tomatoes have citric acid and is a cause of acid reflux.
Blackberries, strawberries, and grapes also have citric acid.
Drinking liquor or wine can also cause acid reflux to flare up.
Beer is not as bad.
Caffeine drinks are another cause of acid reflux.
Cutting out tea, coffee, and cola will help to lessen this problem.
Dairy products and chocolate are acidic and they will cause an attack of reflux in a short period of time.
Oils used in cooking are hard on the digestive system, causing it to produce more acid than normal.
Fried foods and this includes potato chips, French fries, and popcorn are not recommended if you are trying to control of it.
Boxed foods are notorious for using oil as a preservative.
They should be avoided.
Deserts will cause you to suffer for hours due to the large amount of oil used in making them.
Sorry, but the brownies, cookies, and cakes will have to go.
Some of the foods that have been mentioned may not affect certain people like they do others.
There are others that may not seem to be thought of as a cause of acid reflux however they may trigger an attack for you.
Writing down what you eat, when, and how much may help you to understand which foods will cause it.
