Spiritual Growth on a Daily Basis
As I set this morning on my deck overlooking a great patch of trees and eating breakfast I started to think about spiritual growth and what it really means for people.
For a child a day seems like an eternity, but later on they pass quickly and we can't even remember the last time that time stood still for us.
In a society built by corporations and promoting materialism no one really likes to speak about the elephant in the room which is spiritual growth.
How can people be happy without asking meaningful questions and searching for the answers? I don't think they can, and that works great for companies selling pills that make our negative symptoms go away.
For a long time I did not pay any attention to it either so I understand where a lot of people are at this moment.
It is very easy to get caught up in making money, supporting the family and chasing the other rats to the top.
Many years went by and even though I was making more money constantly, and jumping to the next level career wise I still felt as if I was spinning my wheels and my body finally gave out.
There just wasn't a way for me to sustain such speed and the unhappiness would not go away.
I did have a beautiful girlfriend, and a good job living in a nice apartment in queens with all of the gadgets around me that I wanted but still there was something missing.
This started taking a toll on my health, and after seeing western doctors there wasn't a solution or a quick fix in site.
The medication that was prescribed to me worked for a while and stopped the symptoms, but it had a real bad effect on my liver.
This was when I started to toy around with different diets and alternative medicine.
My acupuncture sessions were a nightmare, and I do not ever want to go and get poked with needles again but some of the other help I received was different.
Acupressure, thai massages, neti pot, alkaline diet and Chinese herbal tea did work wonders on my body.
Nothing helped me improve as much though as when I started to get back to the basics and work on my spiritual growth.
There comes a time when as your body starts feeling healthier, your mind is still not keeping up with it as it is not getting what it needs as well.
There are many beliefs, religions and systems to subscribe to and I will not tell anyone which one is best since I do not know that answer.
The point is that everybody should try and become balanced and that means satisfying your mental, emotional and physical needs.
Too many of us only look after one or two of these and then wonder why our bodies are not working as well as we would want them to.
We have the ability to stay happy and only need to learn how to exercise it.
