This is in specific to the aspiring chiropractors who are interested in sports care
The WHAT:
Chiropractic is a study in the field of medicine that treats the patients based on the musculoskeletal system in specific to spine. Physiotherapy is being replaced more and more by this alternative treatment. A chiropractor has a degree of €Doctor of Chiropractic' which is approximately an 8 year course. It takes about 4,200 instructional hours in total including the graduate degree. These non-medical doctors are accredited through Council of Chiropractic Education and are even allowed to prescribe medicines in certain specialization. In the United States a state level registration or licensing is required and mandatory to practice. Chiropractors who are interested in sports care are required to specialize and have Chiropractic Sports Certification that requires recertification every year.
The WHO:
In a broad spectrum, they are non-surgical and non-pharmacologic (prescribe only homeopathic and nutrition medicines) doctors and they treat injuries and misalignments in a non-conservative way. Treatment techniques include soft tissue to joint manipulation. They also treat certain complications with electrical stimulation. There are around 20 techniques they use to manipulate. To treat sports personnel, the Chiropractor has to complete sports med as study major and also have a valid Chiropractic Sports Certification.
The WHY:
This generation is seeking out healthcare providers who can help them stay fit in a natural, drug-free way. So the demand for sports care professionals is on the rise. Despite, increase in demand for sports care professionals, there are very few chiropractors who serve in big sports organizations. Old habits die hard, sports organization still prefer to choose a medical physical therapist over a qualified chiropractor. But, these professionals have found their way through small teams in school or college league teams. It is mandatory to have a chiropractic sports certification to take care of this sector of people.
Athletes in specific are preferring chiropractors over physical therapist. There are even few athletes who have their own personal chiropractor apart from the team physical therapist, because the treatment works well and they also prescribe general homeopathic or nutritional supplements that boost up the healing process naturally.
