How to Add a Hand Shower to a Fixed Shower

    • 1). Place a rag over the nut that holds the fixed showerhead to the threads of the shower arm supply pipe. Grip the nut with a pair of pliers and untwist the nut by turning counterclockwise. Remove the showerhead from the arm.

    • 2). Wrap the threads of the shower arm supply pipe with plumber's tape. If the hand-held shower has a gasket, plumber's tape isn't needed.

    • 3). Screw the nut on the hand-held shower mount onto the threads of the shower arm supply pipe. Wrap the nut with the rag and tighten the nut with the pliers by turning clockwise.

    • 4). Screw the ends of the shower hose to the hand-held shower mount and onto the hand-held showerhead handle.

    • 5). Set the hand-held showerhead down in the mount.
